UPCOMING EVENTS IN KAZAN
As usual February began with the famous Opera festival named after Fyodor Chaliapin, who was born and began his career in Kazan. Leading soloists of the largest Russian theaters, famous foreign opera singers and conductors came to our city to take part in this event.
The festival has been held every year since 1982 in February (which is the month of Chaliapin's birth), and since 1991 it has been an international festival. Traditionally, the event's poster includes productions, including premieres of the Opera and Ballet Theater named after M. Jalil, but the main roles are performed by guest artists who have never performed in Kazan before.
In 2020, the audience will see such operas as "the Tsar's bride", "Il Trovatore", "Queen of spades", "Il Barbiere di Siviglia", "Boris Godunov", "Rigoletto", "Aida", "Nabucco" and "Syuyumbike".
The next upcoming event in Kazan is Pancake Week (Maslenitsa). You can celebrate this holiday in Kazan on February 29 at the square near the family center "Kazan", and the national Museum of the Republic of Tatarstan holds a festive program throughout the week.
Also, costumed folk festivals with songs, dances and national amusements will be held in Sviyazhsk.
If you are planning a tour to Yelabuga at the end of February we recommend you to visit the Museum-estate of N. A. Durova, where an entertainment program is held with fun games, music, tea drinking and traditional burning of the symbol of winter.
