Kazan - one of the largest cities of Russia, more than a million people call it home. Kazan is considered one of the cultural and economic centers of the Volga region.
Kazan was founded more than 1 000 years ago by the ancient Bulgars at the intersection of trade routes between Europe and Asia. In the 16th century, Ivan the Terrible conquered Kazan and annexed it to the territory of Russia. Today Kazan officially is the third capital of Russia.
Kazan - a city of cosmopolitan, the main part of population is Russian and Tatars. Most of the people are Muslim or Orthodox, in the Kremlin you can see the church and the mosque next to it.
Kazan - a student city, the city has many universities and research institutes. The third oldest university in Russia, that was founded in 1804 located in Kazan. Famous scientists such as the founder of non-Euclidean geometry, Nikolai Lobachevsky and physicist Eugene Zavoisky, discovered the phenomenon of electro-paramagnetic resonance, studied and worked in Kazan Federal University.
In recent years, the city has built many sports facilities, because Kazan won the right to host the 2013 Summer Universiade, the World Cup FINA 2015 and the FIFA World Cup in 2018.

During the period of the 16th FINA World Championships, our Republic visit 170 thousand tourists. According to the Russian Federal Migration Service of the Republic of Tatarstan, in the period from 20 July till 18 August 6859 foreigners visited Kazan. Most tourists came from Germany, Ukraine, Turkey, USA, China, France, Italy and other European countries to visit championships. Also Kazan visit tourists from Japan, Korea, Canada and Australia.
The capital of Tatarstan once again confirmed the status of a city, where you may find all the conditions for the world's sporting events. In 2016, the sports capital of Russia will take the IAAF WORLD JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS. According to preliminary information, in the World Championships in Athletics will come about two thousand athletes from 180 countries. Competitions will take place on June and July 2016, and in 2018 Kazan will take FIFA World Cup, which will undoubtedly make an indelible mark in the history of the 1000-year old city.
